Eliminate dengue project taking sting out of outbreaks of the virus
"Our analysis indicates that the dengue virus cannot be transmitted by mosquito bites in the United States, but that it can be transferred by birds such as blackbirds."
The study, titled "Affected by Zika Virus and Dengue Virus and Dengue Virus, 2014 to the End of 2017," was published in the Journal of Human Microbiology, a publication published by the American Society for Microbiology. It is based on data from the CDC Zika Emergency Response Network, the World Health Organization and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
The new study also found that, even though there were no confirmed cases of dengue fever or chikungunya before the 2017 outbreak, there were a large number of dengue cases during that year. "The most likely scenario is that an epidemic of dengue disease was being sustained by the mosquito vector populations in certain areas due to widespread and widespread dengue fever infection, combined with chikungunya infection," said study author Dr. Andrew Zinckey, associate professor of infectious diseases and epidemiology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center.

What is Zika virus?
Zika virus is a mosquito-borne disease that can cause serious conditions in the unborn fetus. According to the World Health Organization, there has been an estimated 800,000 cases of Zika in the Americas, the Caribbean and in Mexico, Brazil and Paraguay.
Although there are currently no confirmed cases of Zika in the United States, the American Zika Response Network (ARN) has launched a series of campaigns aimed at reducing the risk of dengue and the need to consider alternative public health strategies such as mosquito control and mosquito repellent.
CDC Director Dr. Thomas Frieden made clear that public health authorities are ready to deploy surveillance and intervention measures.

Since the proposal was first submitted to Congress, the Office of the Inspector General has conducted an evaluation of the proposed rule and concluded that it does not apply retroactively. Although this recommendation does not alter the outcome of the current dispute, a new rule was needed to effectuate the intent of the Commission's ruling and ensure that the proposed rule applies retroactively to all unionized employers. The Commission recommends that the OIG review the proposal for consistency with current law and apply it retroactively to all parties affected by the proposed rule regardless of whether or not they are members of a bargaining unit.
