Teacher protests as strike begins in a handful of schools
More teachers will join a teacher strike as planned by the Royal Free and Nottinghamshire County Council, which will begin this week.
There were some signs that a planned strike was not looking good for school children across the country.
The strike, which is also planned to see dozens of school staff walk off the job or retire, has been called for April 25-29.
But teachers on one of those six school areas, Manchester Metropolitan University, said they had not received a single request for help, making it harder to mobilise teachers.
Some schools, including Durham Academy, have already withdrawn staff from work until teachers return for the strike to ensure the safety of schools, it said.
At Manchester Metropolitan University, a letter from a head teacher has been sent to all teachers to tell them they are not allowed to work on April 25-29, the school said.
The student union called on people to "help us get to a secure and fair outcome to the dispute, and give us the support we need to prepare for this historic strike".
The Royal Free School, which also sends the schoolchildren of its neighbouring school, Southwood Academy, to school, said teachers would return to work at midday on Wednesday as planned.
